Edgar Cayce (born 18th March 1877, died January 3rd 1945) was regarded as America’s best psychic, known as the sleeping prophet he could put himself into a trance and allow a different entity to take over his being. This entity, or discarnate voice, could speak through Cayce giving readings on peoples lives, medical advice and more. Cayce ‘slept’ throughout these sessions, after the entity had left his body and he had awoken, he remembered nothing of what had been said.
Cayce gave hundreds of thousands of readings whilst in this state and this article will concentrate on the ones he gave where he discusses the lost continent of Atlantis.
During the years of 1923-1944 Cayce gave around 2500 life readings to 1600 different people, 700 of those had had incarnations in Atlantis-that’s around half of the people who came to see Cayce for life readings. Often people came to ask for advice on issues relating to their current life, but sometimes these readings would begin to discuss the subject’s life style in a past reincarnation. Many of the people Cayce dealt with were given life readings for their time in Atlantis and Cayce noted that many people who had lived in the Atlantean times were being reborn in the twentieth century.
Cayce noted that many of the readings were for people in the time of the downfall of Atlantis which made him wonder if they were reincarnating now because of the interesting times that we are currently living in, times that seem akin to the times of Atlantis and the stories of its downfall.
Since the 1900s technology has advanced at a phenomenal rate and according to Cayce’s readings, as well as the myths of Atlantis from stories by people such as Plato, it was said that Atlantis fell because of its dangerous advancement in technology falling into the wrong hands.
Cayce often spoke about karma, the law of cause and effect and if those who were involved in the destruction of Atlantis, whether to help or hinder its downfall, those people would have to face that karma in a future life.
“Be it true that there is the fact of reincarnation, and that souls that once occupied such an environ (meaning Atlantis), are entering the earth’s sphere and inhabiting individuals in the present, is it any wonder that-if they made such alterations in the affairs of the earth in their day, as to bring destruction upon themselves-if they are entering now, they might make changes in the affairs of peoples and individuals in the present.” (364-1)
The ancient myth that Plato brought to the world’s attention said that Atlantis sank under the waves during one day and night. That might be so, but the build up to the continents final destruction occurred over a longer period. In fact, Cayce states that the continent of Atlantis had three periods of self-destruction and that it was the third that caused the sinking of the land into the seas. The first destruction had been the setting off of volcanic activity due to the weaponry the Atlanteans were using, the second destruction had been of fire caused by misuse of the technology.
If these modern times are a repeat of the days of Atlantis-can we save the modern-day Atlantis from such self-destruction?
How did Cayce describe Atlantis? He said that the land began as one large continent but the period of the first destruction broke that continent up into ten islands.
Who are the peoples that inhabited this land? Cayce says that the humans were divided into two factions; the children of the law of one and the sons of Belial.
They were both very different to each other. The sons of the Law of One followed a more spiritual path to that of the sons of Belial who favoured a more materialistic and secular life style. The sons of Belial had the attitude that life was about themselves.
“In Atlantis when there were turmoils between children of Law of One and the sons of Belial, found Sons of Belial desirable for gratification of material emotions and desires.” (3376-2)
One could relate this to modern day as people become divided as materialism spreads across the world and religious beliefs are belittled by rational thought, people turn away from ‘superstitious’ beliefs for a life cantered on themselves. On the other hand, there are those who seek spiritual paths and are still looking to find that higher connection with the Divine, mystery schools and ancient wisdoms are more available as the mystical traditions come out from behind closed doors, there is an awakening of spirituality as people reconnect with the old ways.
“The gratifying, the satisfying, the use of material things for self, without thought or consideration as to the sources of such nor the hardships in the experience of others. Or, in other words, as would term it today, they were those without a standard of morality. The Sons of Belial had no standard, save of self, self-aggrandisement.” (877-26)
Whereas the Children of the Law of One it was said;
“that the soul was given by the Creator or entered from outside sources into the projection of the mental and spiritual self at the given periods. That was the standard of the Law of One but was rejected by the Sons of Belial.” (877-26)
How had this occurred? How had the people divided into two factions? Cayce describes how originally, we humans were spiritual beings, our true ways are spiritual but as spiritual humans came into the density of matter some of them became obsessed with this life style as they discovered physical treats such as sex and food. Those who became addicted to this way of living became lost to their connection to the Divine, they began to forget about that connection, to ignore its call as they wallowed in the benefits of a material lifestyle. These are who became the Sons of Belial.
Whilst living in Atlantis these two factions began to bicker between themselves, which seems rather reminiscent of today’s times.
“For as it remains in the present day: That declaration made and those influences entertained, whether for construction or destruction, depend upon the spirit with which the declaration was made.
“In other words, with what spirit do ye declare thyself? That in conformity with the universal consciousness, the law of love? Or that of hate, dissension, contention-which brings or produce burdens upon thy fellow associates?
“For the law of love in unchangeable; in that as ye do it to the least of thy fellows, ye do it to thy Maker.” (2464-2)
Now why was this technology advancing in Atlantis at a rapid rate? Cayce explains that in those days the lands were being overrun by all types of large wild beasts who were threatening the human’s habitats. These large numbers of animals were invading their habitats and destroying the farming lands and so the Atlanteans made weapons to destroy this wildlife. In the Cayce readings they are described as explosives.
“Then began that period when there were the invasions of this continent by those of the animal kingdoms. This brought about the meeting of the nations of the globe to prepare a way and manner of disposing of them, else they would be disposed of themselves by these forces. This animal invasion resulted in the development of destructive force as could be set and then meted out in its force and power.” (364-4)
This weaponry was then expanded upon but the results of these explosives caused disruptions in the earth, volcanic eruptions and shifting of tectonic plates.
What sort of technology did they have in Atlantis? Crystal power. Cayce describes that it is crystals that power the Atlanteans grids. The crystals powered their transport systems, which included vehicles that could fly in the air as well as swim below the waves. It seems that it was a greener form of energy compared to our fossil fuel usage of today.
The Atlanteans had a different understanding as to how to use crystal technology compared to this century’s scientists and engineers. The Atlanteans were able to connect the crystals to other forces, universal forces, such as electricity and magnetism to give them a power force that run their transport, lit their homes, heated their houses and other applications that we still dream of.
One of the most important crystals was the fire stone, also known as the Tuaoi stone. This fire stone was kept in a specially designed building with a roof that could be rolled back so that the crystal could absorb the energies emanating from the planetary bodies and thus create a certain vibrational energy that could then be utilized by the community. This fire stone and its energy could be used for beneficial or destructive purposes.
“In Atlantean land at time of development of electrical forces that dealt with transportation of craft from place to place, photographing at a distance, reading inscriptions through walls even at a distance, overcoming gravity itself, preparation of the crystal, the terrible mighty crystal; much of this brought destruction.” (519-1)
But it was not just technology that the Atlanteans were divided about. According to Cayce, humans were not the only ones to live on the islands. There was another race, a mixed race of creatures who became the servants and workers for the Atlanteans, they were strange to look at being hybrids of various races, mainly a mixture of humans and animal hybrids. The Sons of Belial regarded them as ‘things’, whereas the Children of the Law of One regarded them as individuals with developing souls and consciousness. Whatever they were, they did the manual work for the Atlanteans.
“Those entities that were then the producers (as we would term today), or the labourers, the farmers or the artisans, or those who were in positions of what we would call in the present just machines, were those that were projections of the individual activity of the group. And it was over these then, and the relationships they bore to those that were in authority, that the difference arose.” (877-26)
The children of the Law of One wanted to free the ‘things’ from this enslavement and have them treated as equals whereas the Sons of Belial were very much against this. In fact, the troubles between the two groups were becoming more uncompromising.
“In Atlantean land when there were those activities that caused the first upheavals and the use of those influences that brought destruction to the land-among those of the law of one but was persuaded by and with leaders of the land to apply spiritual laws for material gain-thus brought or aided in bringing what eventually became the destruction of the material lands.” (1292-1)
Various members of the Children of the Law of One called meetings to try and resolve the difficulties but the Sons of Belial representatives were rather quarrelsome with them. Now Cayce believed that those of Atlantis have been reincarnating in the last 100 years because times seem to be repeating.
“in Atlantean land just preceding the first breaking up of the land when there was the use of many of those influences that are again being discovered that the Sons of Belial turned into destructive forces-could be benefits to communication, transportation etc.” (2560-1)
Just like in today’s times when so much of technology is used for war fare, that money and genius that creates this war machinery could be being used for more beneficial applications. As we managed to split the atom and create atomic weaponry so the Atlanteans turned their technology into such powerful and destructive forces that when they detonated these weapons of mass destruction, they began to also destroy the land that they lived in. The misuse of science and technology leads to a physical destruction of life on our planet.
The technology that the Atlanteans created went too far-it was not beneficial to the planet and that seems to be happening again now-technology is advancing at such a rate that its implications are not being fully considered. We have scientists and engineers trying to create artificial foods and ways for us to live, the earths resources are no longer appreciated but are instead misused and over collected. We also see today that many of our scientific leaders do not apply spiritual and moral obligations to their work as they strive to improve our ways of living.
Edgar Cayce’s son Edgar Evans Cayce writes; “According to Edgar Cayce, here were two individuals with very similar urges and abilities in the electronic and mechanical fields, acquired from an ancient incarnation in Atlantis. Each had choices to make. One moved in a constructive direction; the other temporarily, in a destructive one. The former found fulfilment and peace; the latter discord, confusion and unhappiness.”
Edgar Cayce wondered if those Atlanteans reliving their lives in the twentieth century will make the same mistakes they made back in Atlantis or will they learn from their mistakes and perhaps have a rise in consciousness to do the better action.
